What Kind Of Ac Adapter Does The Original Irobot Romba Need?
I have an old Roomba, the original gray model. Lost the AC adapter. Could buy a replacement direct from iRobot, but that would cost $40. No thanks, I have a universal AC which will work for my needs.
Where should I set the voltage on my universal AC?
The Roomba adapter outputs 24 VDC @ 500 mA but it plugs into another intermediate box that has the plug with two outputs on it and actually plugs into the Roomba. That small box appears to further alter the voltage for the 14.4V battery.
If you’re trying to go directly into the Roomba without going through their intermediate box, you should probably only use 15 VDC (or at most, 18 VDC, but go with 15 VDC first). 24 VDC direct might be too high and fry it. Only use 24 VDC if you’ve tried the others first and they didn’t work at all. Also, if your adapter can’t output 500 mA as a minimum, it might not hold the voltage you set it at and damage the equipment.
Note that it uses DC and not AC, so make sure your adapter is DC! If you’re not sure, buy a Roomba adapter — it’s cheaper than a new Roomba if you fry the old one…
